I’ve lived as a writer, musician & teacher in Paris for 14 years. Most of my writing has to something to do with it.

I’m interested in how human beings derive meaning in life, usually through love, intoxication & power, but also via the myriad fictions & truths we tell ourselves during the in-between.

$60/year to unlock all writing + support equitable publishing in Paris

why Substack?

One of the downsides of writing novels is that I’ve consistently been able to hide behind the phrase “I’m writing a novel.” After eight years spent finishing two master’s degrees, i.e. research for my latest novel about history, memory, and the Nazi Occupation of Poland, I wanted to write & share my writing in a different way, which means publishing something I am proud of every 7-10 days.

This space is about engaging with myself and my readers in the here and now, in all of the contemporary world’s beauty, imperfection, & vulnerability.

free subscriptions vs. paid

Most of the writing on this space will always remain free. But as an academic, a published novelist, and a musician, I also believe in the value of art, and in a society that defines value monetarily, paying artists for their work is one of the easiest ways to support that idea.

Paid subscribers gain access to my first two novels + exclusive music/film and writing, and will also be joining a growing community of people who believe the gatekeepers of old have wielded too much power for too long.

The algorithms don’t decide who is popular on Substack, the readers do, making them active participants in a publishing model that values writers for work based on authenticity, accountability, and equitability.
