why Substack?
One of the downsides of writing novels is that I’ve consistently been able to hide behind the phrase “I’m writing a novel.” After eight years spent finishing two master’s degrees, i.e. research for my latest novel about history, memory, and the Nazi Occupation of Poland, I wanted to write & share my writing in a different way, which means publishing something I am proud of every 7-10 days.
This space is about engaging with myself and my readers in the here and now, in all of the contemporary world’s beauty, imperfection, & vulnerability.

Most of the writing on this space will always remain free. But as an academic, a published novelist, and a musician, I also believe in the value of art, and in a society that defines value monetarily, paying artists for their work is one of the easiest ways to support that idea.
